I'm thinking the base 3.0GHz 6-core Mac Mini with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD for $1099 should be sufficient for these needs with a large external USB-C HDD for Time Machine and Plex library backups. I already own two 24" Dell monitors and lots of USB-A wireless Logitech keyboard/mice combos. If I can make more than $100 extra by selling them directly instead of using Apple's buy-back or Gazelle, that's fine too. At the time I did the tests back in May, I really wasn’t expecting to run these tests again. Actually I was wrong Now fast forward to November and I have brand new iMac Retina 5k here to review and test. Its a family-friendly Mac thats much more concerned with aesthetic sensibility than Adobe Premiere Pro performance. My assumption was that the Mac Pro would certainly be at least twice as fast at everything I threw at it than my 2012 MacBook Pro Retina Display Mac. First, the elephant in the room: the redesigned 24-inch iMac was not created for photographers and video editors.

* Kids can use for Minecraft and Roblox/PBS Kids-style of web browser games as well as homework and learn the Mac platformĪpple's website tells me that I can trade in my 2015 15" rMBP for $750 (2.2GHz i7 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD) and my wife's 2015 MBA (1.6 i5, 4gb RAM, 128GB) for $260. The new M1 iMac is a sleek, stylish and surprisingly affordable photo and video editing machine. * Wife's machine for general usage (she is mostly on her iPhone and only uses her MBA an hour or two each week to pay bills or do light graphics design hobbyist stuff)

* Any software I don't want to run on my work computer (ripping Blu-Rays, a few basic Steam games like The Long Dark that aren't GPU-intensive What I want is a family computer for the following use cases: My kids just use their iPads and school-issued Chromebooks, but they play a lot of web-based games when visiting friends/family and I wanted to get something to fill that niche and serve up video content. We do not currently have a family computer.

I want to trade in or sell a few of the extraneous Macbooks we have since I mostly use my work-issued 2018 MBP and iPad Pro.
